How to style yourself during a weekend in lock-down…

IMG_9371.jpg

What on earth do we wear during the weekend when we can only leave the house once and we aren’t socialising?! Great question…

6 pm Friday… ok, fine 4.30 pm Friday when you clock off... Mules become your new slippers. Why you say?! Because slippers make you feel super sluggish and maybe even gross. I have a gorgeous pair of handmade Ukrainian slippers, but they still do nothing for my morale in the evenings. We have all fallen into the trap of comfy and cozy (myself included) BUT it doesn’t make us feel great in the long run.

In my previous blog I have written about the 6 pm rule - when it gets to the end of your day, shower, brush and redo your hair and make-up and change into a trendier outfit, even if it's just for an hour whilst you cook and have dinner. Friday is when you really go for it outfit wise though! And stay in it after dinner!

Dressing should be something to look forward to each day, just like mealtimes have become even more of a highlight! I have selected a couple of looks for your new IN IN Friday night as well as AM and PM choices for both Saturday and Sunday to inspire you for the weekend.

Friday night style

TGIF, pour a glass and kick those slippers off! I have banged on about this & Other Stories dress ALL week but that is a sign of a damn good purchase. We buy things because we love them and want to wear them time and time again – if you can’t wear your fave dress on a Friday night at home, when can you?! SO that’s my recommendation for your Friday night attire. I have added my thick leather belt from Hobbs (my newest addition to my wardrobe) to cinch in my waist and elevate the dress and wear my pink mules to complete my look – heels and boots can also be worn!

If you’re not a dress or dress up kinda girl, I highly recommend this killer leopard print boiler suit by Hush. You can cinch it in with a waist belt just like my dress and pair with some metallic converse. Style note: Metallic accessories (shoes and bags included) are a contemporary version of a neutral so can be worn with ANYTHING with absolutely no exceptions

Also, if you want to mix up your metallics by wearing them together… go for it. I also consider an animal print as a neutral (unless its in bright colours) so the same rules as metallics can be used AND metallic and animal combinations raise the bar!

Saturday day

A Saturday stroll is the top of everyone’s agenda today. Before you fill up your flask with fresh coffee and set off for a much-needed stroll, reach for your favourite pretty dress…NOT your leggings – unless they are fashionable coated leggings that you can wear under your dress. I’ll be wearing this dreamy floral number from Topshop, with my leather jacket (All Saints make the BEST biker jackets that will last you a lifetime) and gold ankle boots – metallic converse will also work (Don’t forget my style notes above) If it is freezing and windy, you can always throw on your coat and scarf, but at least you’ll know that underneath you’re looking fabUlous.  Any dresses go, by the way, if you’re not a floral fan, choose a block colour or animal print and apply all the same rules. This look is guaranteed to put a spring in your step. Click images to scroll.

Saturday night…

Lusting over your PJs?! I dare you to try something a little different. Let’s be honest, these stunning silk wrap trews by Jigsaw aren’t far off PJs but will help you feel sophisticated and you can dreamily float around your home in them. If you normally go out out, this stunning sequin vest top will set your look off perfectly by adding a pop of colour and sparkle. If you want to keep it low key a simple T will do the trick! Keep cosy in this glorious ribbed shawl from Coz (or your biker jacket) and slip on your mules (or converse, or gold boots – see what I am doing here?!) and don’t forget a cocktail or four. Sunday daytime…

Even I cut some slack on my Sunday walk (mainly because I'm desperately trying to blow the cocktail cobwebs away) choose some awesome black flared jeans, which believe me flatter EVERYONE, tuck in a sumptuous silk blouse, layer over a suede jacket (leather jacket from yesterday will also work) and complete with leather biker boots. Practical, comfy and VERY stylish. Style note: I tend to mix leather and suede instead of doubling up on leather pieces in one outfit, I think playing and mixing textures is far more interesting and unique. If you’re not a fan of biker boots, your converse or gold boots will also work wonderfully, you can even throw on the ribbed scarf you wore last night for extra warmth. Click images to scroll.

Sunday eve – perhaps my most desired look of the weekend.

Outcome your coated leggings, if you don’t like coated leggings, choose a gorgeous pleated skirt. Layer on your soft and cosy knit BUT chinch it in with your waist belt that you wore Friday night and then cleverly drape over your favorite button-down dress as a kimono for a touch of colour and easy elegance and complete with your mules. Curl up looking as chic as ever on your sofa post-roast and relax into your favourite film and voila, that’s your weekend style in the bag! Click images to scroll.

Each item of clothing mentioned in this blog has been chosen so that it effortlessly works with at least two or three other outfits as well as the one I have styled it with, making it into the beginnings of a weekend capsule wardrobe. This got me thinking - now I have shown you how to edit your wardrobe (check out my previous blogs if you missed it) and to look for gaps, I now want to help you with how to build your very own capsule wardrobe! Then I can introduce you to where to find them in my preferred online platforms. I hope you enjoyed reading this and that it has sparked some ideas for you! Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Stylish wishes,
