Easy 30 second hairstyles to see us through the rest of lock-down
Let’s be honest… We have made it through the peak (and we should be proud) but we still have a way to go, our hair is at its very worst and we are running out of options and motivation to do much about it until next month... We are all seeing how long we can get away without washing our hair and scraping it back into a messy bun for as long as possible... As soon as we wash and dry it we remember how great it feels and swear we won’t ever leave it that long again, ever… Along comes lunch and up the hair goes (because lunch is life right now) and the messy bun cycle begins all over again.
We are also still battling with the WFH wardrobe dilemmas, right? The working in active wear privilege has now run out and we all feel lost. Clothing is a way of letting the world know who we are without having to speak, so when we stop dressing properly, we lose a slice of who we are. It’s vital to feel great in what you wear and keep on top of your hair game, so you feel great and stay motivated working from home.
I have chosen to mix it up a bit this week and choose three simple hair styles (they take less than 30 seconds and if I can do them… anyone can!) and have paired them with a look that is just as practical as your active wear, but a move on from what you’re perhaps used to wearing.
The Messy Bun
I’m not talking about the scrunch it up in one move messy bun, I’m talking about a more considered version which I assure you will give you a needed boost!
Step 1: Brush your hair up into a high ponytail and pop a headband on, I recommend independent brand, War&Drobe, each band is handmade, and they are designed from sustainable fabrics.
Step 2: Twist the length of your ponytail into a bun, then secure the whole thing with pins
Step 3: Add some volume by wiggling sections of hair at your roots and from the bun
Combine the headband with a stunning embroidered blouse to get noticed in your zoom call. You can wear a statement blouse with anything from jeans to a pleated skirt, just make sure you tuck the blouse in to cinch in your waist!
The Voluminous Pony
The easiest and most transformational hairstyle especially with an additional scarf or hair clip. I recommend styling them with an eye-catching dress with puff sleeves to create a contemporary and effortless look.
Step 1: Pull the hair above your ears into a half-up, half-down ponytail, letting the hair beneath your ears hang loosely
Step 2: Scoop the rest of your hair into a second ponytail right beneath the first one
Step 3: Tease the top ponytail using a fine-tooth comb to create fullness
Step 4: Tie round a stunning scarf to add a pop of colour and interest. If scarves aren’t your thing attach a hair clip above your ears to elevate your pony.
Half Up half Down
If you’re no fan of hair accessories, the half up, half down is the perfect solution. Wear with an uber cool denim boiler suit for an edgy WFH look. Boiler suits are the answer to stress free dressing as you can just throw one on and you are done. Add an animal print belt to take it to the next level.
Step 1: Place your hair into a half-up, half-down style—leaving out two fine layers of hair to frame your face—and secure the ponytail with a band.
Step 2: Grasp the bottom of the ponytail, and, with your finger, tug a little at the band to create an opening above it and tuck and pull the bottom half of the ponytail through the space you've created and you’re done
Now is the perfect time to experiment and get creative with your WFH outfits and hair… No one can see your new style and you will be so used to your new hair style by the time you get back to the office, it will become second nature to you!
Finally, I would like to share my hair style secrets with you! If like me, you are new to hair care and styling it, I can not recommend Percy & Reed enough. They make it super simple to choose what products you need by their awesome online quiz (who doesn’t love a quiz) Their products are so easy to use and I can always notice the difference when I don’t use Percy & Reed and I kick myself when I don’t use it! I also have my hair cut in their Salon which is on Great Portland Street. This isn’t an AD and I’m not getting paid or gifted, I just bloomin’ love their products and ethos. Percy & Reed make sure you check them out! When you head over to their website, you may see someone you recognise too!
Stylish wishes and happy experimenting, there’s no better time!
