Lee Jeans my way…

IMG_2427.jpg

One of the reasons that I adore style is that you can really make it your own. There are zero rules when it comes to personal style. The rulebook is officially out of the window. What’s the secret then?! Well it is all about how you feel – if you like it, wear it! Mixing different looks, brands, trends, styles, colours and fabrics (the list goes on) officially has the go ahead and couldn’t be more inspiring.

I had the pleasure of styling Ginnie Chadwyck-Healey and finding her some new denim. Without question I went straight to Lee jeans and popped her in a pair of high-rise Mom jeans that are perfect for spring. I constantly rely on Lee for perfect fit with all of my clients - It’s a no brainer for me who my favourite denim brand is.

I was not expecting Lee to get in touch post-styling session with Ginnie. In fact, I almost didn’t believe it was legit that Liam reached out and kindly offered me two looks from their current SS19 campaign to style up. I had a brill time choosing the looks. I made sure I selected pieces that would all work together as well as with pieces in my existing wardrobe.

After some initial research and a look in to their latest SS19 campaign story , I was gobsmacked that Lee has 130 years of history and heritage (but not surprised that) it is recognised as a leading role in the modern denim movement. It is so trendy and (again) their fit is so contemporary I assumed they couldn’t be from before the 80s. Whoops…

Their current SS19 collection is a celebration of its hip-hop credentials. I think we can safely say that there isn’t an ounce of cool hip hop vibe in me and that my style is more on the colourful and feminine spectrum BUT this is what I mean about how incredible personal style is and how remarkable it is to mix everything up to make it in to your own style.

So, here is my take on Lee SS19 collection and I’ll show you how to take the looks from day to night. Plus top tips with how to style them with pieces already in your wardrobe.

Look One – Classic daytime Lee

Choosing a statement skinny is brave and I think this pair takes the crown. I just LOVE the 80s red stripe – it makes the perfect statement without making a statement don’t you think? I styled it with the red classic logo T as a white T would be too obvious. If you're going to wear these jeans I say just go for it. Whist doing so, chuck on the rider denim jacket a metallic trainers (red sunglasses optional) and you’re ready for your daytime adventure.

Look 2 – Fancy Lee for drinks with the girls

Want to feel a bit fancy in the same outfit but unsure of what do to/ cant face taking off your jeans? Colour blocking is still a huge trend and blazers aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. So, out with the denim, on with your blazer and hello sophisticated lady. Complete with a printed ankle boot to clash with the stripes and to add some texture then its drinks time with your favourite crowd.

Look 3 - Everyday with a feminine twist

What’s the best trick to wear a floral T and not feel like you’re a teenager again? Wear it with a pair of amazing bright red cut off jeans, a denim jacket and metallic converse. I quite simply adore mixing and matching different looks and making my own and all you need to do is not be scared to do it. This outfit is just what you need for a long day. The red jeans will give you a great boost of energy every time you look down at them. They are the definition of comfy. I recently went to a BBQ in my pair and I can vouch that you can eat all the food and still have room for dessert in them.

Look 4 - Statement Lee

Not sure if you have realised quite how much I love red yet so here’s the ultimate Lee block colour combo for you. Not for the faint hearted but if you order a pair of bright red trousers you may as well do it properly right?! This outfit is faultless for weekends rushing around and getting stuff done. I’m moving house next week and I will be sporting this look for sure.

Look 5 – Lee and looking like a ‘grown up”

This is my take on ‘grown up’ Lee. My favourite wide legged trousers with a simple yet refined off the shoulder top and completed with a statement ankle boot (leather jacket for warmth in necessary). Ankle boots are another item to add to your wardrobe if you haven’t already. The go with quite literally ANYTHING in your wardrobe – jeans, skirts, trousers, dresses – the list is everlasting. Plus they are trans-seasonal – meaning you can wear them not just in sprint but Autumn and winter with tight too. Cost per wear is phenomenal.

Look 6 – Styling Lee with your existing clothing.

There is nothing quite like a picnic in the park, beach or your garden is there? A romantic one for two, a crazy one for families or a raucous one with your girls. The definition of a British summer. But what do you wear?! We don’t want to burn and we don’t want to be uncomfortable so I say a long skirt – can be satin like mine or a trendy pleated or A-line version – all are fantastic at catching crumbs too. Then here comes my love of my classic red Lee T and back to that trusty denim jacket for warmth. The ultimate mix of smart casual here.

Look 7 – Night time T shirt

The final look, although I’m sure by now you can think of plenty more ways to style both the Lee jeans and Ts. Sticking with the skirt idea but swapping the T over (keeping the denim jacket of course – but add some statement earrings) plays with a gentle clash of prints and textures which I really think adds a subtle edge to your outfit, making it perfect for when the sun goes down.

And there you have it. My take on Lee denim. How remarkably simple is it to incorporate something that isn’t necessarily your stereotypical ‘style’ into your wardrobe and by simply changing accessories or even your jacket you have SO many new look for every occasion you need to go to this spring? So many people are nervous to do this. My advice – just go for it and trust your gut judgment. That is what it is there for.

Thank you Lee for giving a new up and coming personal stylist a chance (a special thanks to Liam) I hope you have enjoyed my take on your wonderful, timeless and trendy collection and I will continue to dress my clients in your phenomenal brand.
