My Marmite SS21 Trends
Not all trends get everyone’s votes, I mean it is literally impossible for everyone to like everything. The thing I really love about Fashion trends is the immediate reactions we all have as soon as we see them on the runways. That gut response, almost judgment (poor designers) that makes us go ‘ooooooh woooooow, I LOVE it’ or ‘OMG what were they thinking, how or why on earth would anyone wear something like that?!
Over the past couple of weeks, I have shown you the most wearable and eye-catching trends of SS21. Now the following little beauties are to cause a stir and drum up some fun for you as you scroll through! That’s the beauty of fashion and style, it evokes emotions and tells a story of who you are to the world! Mixing in current trends with your own personal style is how you can keep the fire alive in your wardrobe and experiment so you can keep developing your style over time.
Netting and hole detailing
So it’s a bit like fishnets, but instead of tights, your entire body…
Great for layering over leather leggings and bodysuits or slip dresses (summertime obvs) for some texture and serious SASS. I love the idea of cut out netting in leathers/thicker fabrics for those of us who don’t quite want to show as much skin or sass…
I LOVE the netted capes and knitwear though, super modern and cosmopolitan with a sexy edge. Hats off for craftsmanship and imagination.
Bra’s on show / The New bralette
Personally, not sure about this. I can hear my nan tutting at this in my head all the way from Cambridge, haha. I think the easiest way to incorporate this is a to have the top of a pretty and lacey bra on show under a silk cami. Or a block colour showing under a floaty shirt or even, now I think about it, under a netted dress, now that would be fashion hun.
However, I am enjoying the matching printed shorts and bra combos so… all Is not lost. I do say though, save it for girls or date night and avoid like the plague for work.
The return of the Corset
Hmm… I hate anything that is supposed to change our bodies to make them look like a more ‘desirable’ or a smoother shape so initially, I said HELL NO. But I don’t actually believe that’s what the designers are getting at here… I mean it would be utter madness if it was. I think it’s more about attitude and making a statement. It also makes me think of Carrie Bradshaw and SATC and I simply cannot wait for the new season to begin.
If you are into the return of the corset, experiment with making it casual over shirts with jeans and then play with dressing it up with a feminine skirt but pairing it with some big old chunky boots.
Leather
Leather is BACK again, it’s been hanging around for ages and doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere and I am totally ok with that. This season it looks like it’s reinventing classic pieces, take the blazer, midi, and mini dress and giving it some serious freshness so well worth the investment. It’s also being very clever with puff sleeves and awesome necklines which I am all over.
It is SO easy to style with every day basics you have in your wardrobe. For example, your turtle necks, knitted vests, and basic Ts with trainers or keep to the chunky boot trend. Just don’t wear it in 30 Degrees, without being dramatic, you may collapse in a pool of your own sweat. Haha.
Lady, with a twist
Now, this I feel lots of people will be on board with, or almost doing without realising. Hail the hoodies we have grown so attached to over the past year and layer over a smarter bomber or utility-style jacket, and pull on a fabulous midi skirt. I recommend trying it on with one of your pleated numbers, a knitted skirt that’s all the rage right now, or even a fancy pencil skirt. Make sure you wear it with a dressier shoe to show the world you mean business (even in a hoodie)
I have taken you through a LOT of trends the past few weeks, the good, the bad, and the ugly! And there’s still fabric and my absolute fave, colour (of course) to go!
Thank you for reading, let me know what you think and if you give any of the SS21 trends a whirl!
Stylish wishes and stay safe.
