How to connect your personality to the colours you wear

My role as a Personal Stylist here in London is to help you reconnect with who you are on the inside so that we can confidently reflect that through how you dress.

I believe that style starts within and whether we like it or not, within a tenth of a second we make subconscious judgments about what kind of person we are talking to.

What we wear lets the world know who we are without having to speak, it is SO powerful and is constantly overlooked and underappreciated. I see it as a kind of superpower - who thought getting dressed can create such an impact?!

Why is it so hard to connect your style and personality?

It is OVERWHELMING when trying to do this solo. This is for a number of reasons including we all have preconceived ideas within us that we stick to. For example, you once overheard your mum say something like ‘I can’t wear jeans because XYZ’ and so you also believed that to be true. You may have had a traumatic experience in a changing room with a jumpsuit, I mean who hasn’t - and it is enough to put you off for life) so you have now ruled out jumpsuits from your wardrobe. Perhaps you dislike a certain colour or you assume it won’t suit you so another preconceived idea is born in your brain. Did you know that we can all wear ANY colour, it’s getting the right tint or shade to harmonise with your complexion?

It’s SO hard to get out of the habit of thinking like that, I call it the ‘Blinker’ effect. To start breaking up these rules that are usually arnt’t accurate, you need to rediscover your style foundations and look at your personality. How do that you ask?! A QUIZ OBVS… but not just a quiz the official open psychometrics test.

How do you start connecting your personality and your style?

I recommend nailing your style foundations.

What are style foundations?

Colour Analysis - Discover the very best colours to enhance your complexion and reflect your nature

Body Shape session - Nail how to dress for your figure

Style Personality - Uncover your style and learn how to refine it as your style develops

If you feel as though you have lost your way, learning the basics of your own style is the perfect way to rebuild your relationship with yourself and your clothing.

It all begins with discovering your style foundations so that they become second nature to you. Understanding these basics will help you to find your way by creating new habits that allow you to reconnect with yourself so you can transform your relationship with yourself and your wardrobe. If you like to find out more before we move on to the juicy quiz, check it out here.

What’s your natural temperament and personality?

Are you naturally introverted or extroverted or somewhere in between? Are you a natural-born leader, a BTS gal’ or someone who has the patience of a saint? (I can officially say thats not me LOL)

All of these characteristics of personalities need to wear different tints and shades of colours to reflect their nature. Using me as an example, I need a bright colour to reflect my extroverted and high energy nature whereas my bf Jonny who is as calm as a plank of wood (lol) needs more high contrasting deeper tones to reflect his nature.

There is a lot more to do with your complexion and whether you have a warm or cool undertone but I won’t go into it today. Today is all about personality and colour so let’s start a quiz to get the ball rolling!

What are the four temperaments and the open psychometrics theory?

The four temperament theory is a proto-psychological theory which, suggests that there are four fundamental personality types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic.

What are the four personality types?

According to Galen, the imbalance of pairs resulted in one of the four temperament categories. I have very much stripped it down and made it very basic with this explanation.

Sanguine - being optimistic and social - bright, clear and light colours

Choleric - A natural-born leader and decisive - muted, earthy tones

Melancholic - perfectionist and mysterious - high contrast and deep shades

Phlegmatic - being relaxed and peaceful - light and soft tints.

What’s your personality type?

It’s officially time to take your test! Make sure you screen-shot me the results and send them to me! I’d love to recommend you some colours to wear!

Drumroll….
